OUTREACH Rescue attempts of children being forced into having sex with strangers has shown that these girls are not ‘walking the streets’ soliciting ‘johns’. Over 75% are being controlled by a Pimp (Shared Hope International) and the act is being arranged via Craig’s List, by a pimp or even an older woman on the streets. These young girls are then taken to a cheap motel to perform the act or are transported by the pimp from state to state and forced to solicit truckers at truck stops along major highways. Many organizations are conducting outreach strategies to reach out to girls and women who are being forced into prostitution in the US. The Health and Human Services Department has created a toll free number in which people can report suspected cases of human trafficking and victims can call for help as well. They have also identified several key questions to ask a person that is being victimized. Knowing that these young girls are generally not found on the streets, outreach materials need to be created and distributed to where they are most likely to be found. This project is especially important to me because being a survivor of DMST, I vividly recall the most horrific night of my life. I was kidnapped and taken by a group of men to an inner city, cheap motel in Detroit Michigan where several dozen men were waiting for my arrival in one small room. After being drugged and repeatedly sexually violated, I lost consciousness from the brutality of it all. When I awoke, I was all alone and had no idea what to do. In severe shock from the trauma, I went to the bathroom, threw up, attempted to clean myself and get dressed. When thinking about this night and having the deep desire to reach out to these girls, I felt the huge urgency to have this number available to them where they will be at the lowest point of their life. In the motel room. So bars of soap will be offered free to motels. These bars of soap will have a new label with 2 or 3 key questions as well as the 1-800 number. Volunteers for SOAP will deliever them along with printed materials and educate the motel owners and their staff on the Red Flags of Forced Teen Prostitution.
